Well, the price of gas keeps climbing and we continue to wonder if the cost of fuel for the trip will approach the “poison pill” level. Five weeks ago Gas Buddy.com calculated the cost of fuel for the trip at $1690. Three weeks ago the cost was calculated at $2110. Today it is $2780. How high can it go?
Admittedly, I am using the worst case scenario of 17 mpg when calculating the cost of fuel, but unfortunately, that is the best mileage my 2011 GMC Acadia AWD has achieved so far. It is a far cry from the 16/ 23 mpg advertised by GMC! We are driving to Orlando, FL to a wedding the week before we leave for the Alaska trip and maybe that will give me a better idea as to what mileage to expect. There’s nothing like driving 1700 miles as a warm up for beginning an 11,450 mile trip three days later!
Memorial Day will be go/no go decision day. Keep posted.
