Ireland Road Trip, Day 5, September 26, 2013

The breakfast at Garnish House was as promised by the proprietor the day before , when he said that the best was best to come. We were offered an extensive menu and told that we could have as many selections as we wished. On a buffet cold table was a magnificent selection of pastries, scones, fruit, yogurt, and juices. The table service menu had to many selections to mention. My choice was the same as Babs, smoked salmon eggs Benedict, except I asked for two Irish sausages on the side. We both started with porridge with Baileys Irish Cream Liquor, out of this world! In addition to the extensive menu everything is cooked to perfection. I give the Garnish House a double Gold!

Our route took us through more quaint towns and narrow roads until we finally got to the National highway.

Everyone was ready for a break and we saw roadside ads for a Toy Soldier Factory with free coffee and restrooms. There was no free coffee in sight but the restrooms were clean. Babs watched them cast a metal toy fairy and said it was interesting. She and Katy made their obligatory purchase. We headed out of the store and took advantage of some props outside in the parking lot.

We continued on our way and had a mix of highway and narrow roads. the hillsides are covered with sheep  and green pastures loaded with cows. A good deal of land was planted in corn.

We got to our B & B The Old Weir Lodge around 2 p.m. which was later that we had planned.  We were scheduled to stay here foe two nights. Katy had planned on us driving around the "Ring of Kerry" Peninsula
one day and do a lake boat ride and pony cart ride the next. After some discussion we decided to go ahead with the six hour loop drive today anyway. So away we went.

We drove the entire route, including aside trip to Valentia Island which we had to access by ferry.

The ride to the island gave up beautiful views of mountains. On Valentia Island we drove to the top of the mountain which was home to a herd of sheep.

Everyone except me took a hike to see sheer cliffs opening to the sea.

The ride back to Killarney was on more narrow and twisting roads which were some of the narrowest that we've been on yet. However, the ride was worth it because of magnificent mountain and sea coast views.

We came to a place where you could hike down to the beach and Katy and Jason waded out to experience the beach. It really was beautiful.

Once again Jason did a stellar job of getting us home safely.

Babs Says:Mary had a little lamb, Ireland has a million sheep and they stink.
