2013 Western Adventure Day 12

Today we started with breakfast here at the hotel. The continental breakfasts here makes The Brandin Iron Inn’s breakfast look gourmet.  After breakfast we headed out to explore Teton Village. All parking is paid and expensive so we drove around some and Babs snapped some photos of the gondola that carries skiers up the mountain.

Heading back to Jackson Hole a iron company had build a giant snowman from hay which was covered with snow.

Next we headed out of town to check out Slide Lake which was the result of an earthquake causing a landslide and damning up the Gros Venture River river creating the lake.

The road back was filled with beautiful scenery.

We then went back into Jackson for a delicious Bar-B-Que at Bubba's.

Outside of Jackson city limit is the National Elk Refuse. After lunch we decided to take one of the sleigh rides that take you into the refuse and up close to the elk.

Our sleigh was pulled by Smith & Wesson.

There we learned that it takes five seasons for elk to develop full antlers that remain the same size throughout their lives.  The only thing that changes on the antler is the length of the spikes.  You can’t tell the age of an elk by the number of spikes on the antlers.

There was also a Bald Eagle in a tree that we moved almost right under. (I still can't rotate photos in the blog!)

After the sleigh ride was over we drove to the back side of the reserve where we saw Big Horn Sheep and another Eagle, this time on a rock.

We also saw The Miller House which is a historical landmark.

Dinner tonight was at the Sweet Water Grill and was excellent.   Babs had trout and I had a buffalo t-bone steak.

After dinner we walked to Jackson Square which was all decked out in white lights.

We're not sure where we will be tomorrow because our plans have changed due to our friends illness.
