When we awoke today it was 10 degrees outside with a
wind blowing about 15 mph. Fortunately,
it had only snowed a couple of inches although the wind was blowing the snow
all around. Chairs were outside our room
so we could sit outside and enjoy the weather.
After a less than notable continental breakfasted
provided by Best Western, we waited around in the warmth of our room until 9
a.m. to let the snow plows do their thing. We passed by AL’s Oasis to snap a
photo of the buffalo figures our kids climbed on during our 1998 trip west.
The road from Chamberlain, SD to Wall, SD proved to be
a challenging, “white knuckle” ride with snow, blowing snow, and icy spots on
the road. When driving into the wind,
the snow was as if it was a “white out”.
We took our time and with some patience arrived at
Wall, SD and stopped at the famous Wall Drugs for our nickel cup of
coffee. Because I was a veteran, my
donut and coffee was free! Wall Drugs is a series of stores linked together
under the name of Wall Drugs and takes up a whole block. In addition to merchandise
it is loaded with unique things to occupy one’s imagination. It’s a tourist “must
see”.
The roads remained dicey through Rapid City, SD into
Wyoming, with only one travel lane clear and blowing snow, but without
additional snow falling.
Tomorrow, Gardiner, MT and visit Mammoth Hot Springs in
Yellowstone National Park..

double potatoes rather than veggies out of a can. Waiter replies, “Sir they are
out of a bag.”
