Day 12, Tok to Fairbanks

Day 12, Started out as a sunny day with blue skies, puffy white clouds, and 56 degrees.  The drive from Tok, Alaska to Fairbanks is an easy four hour drive which begins with beautiful mountain scenery.
On the way we pass through Delta Junction Alaska which is the end point of the Alaska Highway which starts at Dawson Creek, Yukon Territory, Canada.
In addition to the end of the Alaskan Highway marker, Babs wanted a photo of sculpture of the Alaskan state Bird….the mosquito.
Half way from Tok to Fairbanks the Tanna River follows the highway for about ten miles.
We briefly stopped at North Pole Alaska to send a post card to our grandchildren and have an excellent lunch at the "Fire Wok" a restaurant we found on our last trip to Alaska two years ago. Five miles outside of Fairbanks, we had the only wildlife sighting of the day, a cow moose.
We are at the Holiday Inn Express Fairbanks tonight.  The room is spacious and comfortable.  Dinner was at Chena’s Alaskan Grill.  The food was excellent and this double rainbow was a bonus!
Tomorrow we head to the Arctic Circle via a bus tour.  We don’t get back until midnight so our blog will most likely be posted the next morning.
Babs Says:  On the road today (after 4 cups of coffee) I finally broke down and used one of the self flushing (pit) rest area stops.  I was pleasantly surprised- did not have to hold my nose, no bugs or trash.  Better than the woods, but still a last resort.
Monday is laundry day.  Immediately after checking in, took dirty clothes to the guest laundry.  We had filled both washers and a lady came in and rudely asked, “You using both?”  I thought there was going to be a laundry room rumble.  She left and Frank stayed there for the entire cycles guarding the machine and contents.  Unfortunately just like home one of my socks got eaten!
