Day 16, Homer to Copper Center, Alaska

Day 16 found us waking up to bright sunshine and a breath taking look from our window across to Cooks inlet.  Of course it never really gets dark, but today it was not raining. The ride from Homer to Anchorage, Alaska was doubling back on the route that we took down to Homer so we had seen the scenery.  However, we were treated to an unobstructed view of Mount Redoubt, the volcano that erupted in 2009 shutting down air traffic across Alaska and most of Europe.
Mount Redoubt is usually hidden by clouds which are a result of its own micro weather system.  In the same range is Mount Iliamna another volcano which has not erupted in modern times.
The ride from Anchorage to Copper Center, Alaska where we are staying tonight at the “Sawing Logzz” B & B was the same route Babs and I took in 2009. The scenery should have been another repeat but because it was snowing so hard in 2009, we it was all new to us.  Seeing some of the roads I drove in driving snow in 2009 made me glad that I couldn’t see the drop offs then.  This road is drenched in beautiful scenery.  Tern Lake
and mountains make the trip enjoyable.
Also on this leg of the trip was Matanuska Glacier which is 27 miles long and an average width of two miles.

Tonight we are at the "Sawing Logzz" B & B in Copper Center, Alaska.  We had directions, sort of, but we ended up at the Post Office where Babs asked a woman coming out of the building if she knew where it was located.  The very nice lady led us there, had she not done so, we would still be looking for it!

Stay tuned, tomorrow, we are off to the Wrangler Elias National Park, the largest National Park in the United States.

Babs Says:
Q: What happens when a bus and a moose meet in the middle of the road?
A: Bus-dent, moose dead. (We saw this today in Anchorage)

Q: What happens in Alaska to people who are prone to car sickness?
A: Frost heaves cause heaves.

Q: What is in that jar on our B & B shelf that looks like somebody’s grandparents ashes?
A: It’s really ashes, but from the Mount Redoubt eruption.  And the label said, “Mt. Redoubt ashes.  Please do not eat.” What?
