Day 9, In and out of rain all day

Day 9 of our great Alaskan adventure began cloudy and ended in the rain. Fortunately the rain came and went during the day until about 75 miles from Whitehorse, YT where we are spending tonight. So far our travel time calculations have been on the mark. We seem to put up around 3:30 p.m. each day but I don’t know how we could have planned any better. Unfortunately, this hotels internet is so slow I am unable to post photos. I will try to resubmit tomorrow.
Today yielded some magnificent scenery but no animal sightings. Almost all day we had views of high mountain peaks and large lakes like Swan Lake which went on for miles with snow capped mountains as a back drop.

Much to Babs chagrin she could only find one interesting hike to take today. It was a .66 mile round trip hike to a beautiful little falls.

Fortunately the rain had subsided for a while. Did I mention that it was 45 degrees?
This six span bridge across the Nisutlin Bay had a corrugated steel deck. The way our Acadia weaved its way across it, I wouldn’t have wanted to be on a motor cycle!

After a picnic lunch, our next stop was Miles Canyon. It was a really beautiful feat of nature with deep brown canyon walls of volcanic stone and emerald green waters. A suspension bridge traversed the canyon. Babs ventured onto it for a photo opportunity but decided to return to shore after the bridge began to bounce up and down.

As I said before, we arrived early, actually around 2 p.m. today. After going to Walmart for some walking sticks for me and more mosquito repellent, we decided to try out the local river side trolley. The trolley runs along the Yukon River and goes from one end of Whitehorse to the other. Not to exciting but interesting conversation with fellow passengers.

Tomorrow we head north to Dawson City and the “Top of the World Highway”.

Babs Says: I outsmarted myself. Was so organized, addressed, stamped, and wrote when to mail greetings cards. I completely forgot US stamps don’t work in Canada. I cannot mail anything until we get to Alaska. Some people will be getting their wishes late. OOPS!
It is impossible to eat a ham sandwich while being attacked by swarms of mosquitoes. We had to retreat to the car to have lunch. I had the best meal of the trip ia am- eggs, sausage, rel potatoes, and homemade bread toasted.  Just shows that you can't judge a book by it's cover.
