Monday, June 6, D Day, Our 5th day of our great Alaskan adventure

Monday, day 5 of our great Alaskan adventure had us traveling from Regina, SK to Edmonton, Alberta Canada. If I thought North Dakota was boring, this drive made North Dakota look like an “E” ride at Disneyland. This is the greatest example of the Great Plains that one will ever see. This is where the term sod buster emanated from. Fields or prairies were as far as one could see. Luckily for many of the land owners there were a ton of oil and natural gas leases working. That makes me wonder why gas by the liter is equal to $4.87 US per gallon. Here in Edmonton it is equal to $4.07 a gallon, much better.

The real highlight of the ride came at the unlikely burg of Vegreville located in Alberta. That is where the world’s largest pysanka is located. What is a pysanka?

If you guessed Easter egg you are smarter that I. This Easter egg is 31 foot in length!

After checking into the Hampton Inn where we are staying tonight, we went to the West Edmonton Mall. To be honest, I wasn’t really excited about it but it was one of Babs’s bucket list items for this trip. This mall is amazing! The mall covers 48 city blocks. It sports 800 stores, and 100 eating places, a hugh hotel, multi plex theatre, an ice skating rink, a seal water show, a water park, and an amusement park with no less than three roller coasters, all under roof!

Dinner was at the Homefire restaurant next to the hotel. Okay food but not worth the $30+ Canadian. Tomorrow, we head North West to Dawson Creek.

Babs says: Why are there more American car brands on the roads here in Canada than on the streets of DC? Why don’t politicians just tell the sordid truth? When at a restroom-use it even if you have to force the issue! It will probably be miles and miles before you have another opportunity. Carry depends? It is possible to make pancakes in a pasta-like machine. Push a button and in one minute 2 pancakes plop out on a plate. Amazing and it even tastes okay. *

*I am not responsible for Babs says which is uneditided!
